Paris Saint-Germain Muslim midfielder Idrissa Gueye reportedly missed his side’s game against Montpellier on Saturday because he didn’t want to play in anti-homophobia shirt that had his number in rainbow colors.
Travelling south to Montpellier with his Paris St.-Germain teammates for the team’s league game, Gueye watched the game from the stands.
Saying Gueye was not injured, his coach added after P.S.G.’s victory: He “had to leave the team for personal reasons.”

A team source confirmed Monday that Gueye had refused to join his teammates in wearing a special jersey featuring rainbow-colored numbers, New York Times reported.
The practicing Muslim player, who also missed the same fixture last season, didn’t comment on his absence.

His move this year has triggered attacks from Rouge Direct, a group that fights homophobia in sports, which called on the French league, P.S.G. and Gueye to “explain themselves” and suggested Gueye should be punished for his actions.
Same-sex relationship and marriage are totally prohibited in Islam, Christianity, and all divine religions.
Islam teaches that believers should neither do the obscene acts nor in any way indulge in their propagation.
