Popular award winning Nigerian actress Mercy Aigbe has converted to Islam, changing her name to Hajia Meenah.

The Nollywood star revealed her conversion to Islam during a Ramadan lecture which she hosted with her husband Kazeem Adeoti.

“Insha Allah, My new name is Hajia Meenah Mercy Adeoti. Meenah with the H,” the actress said in a video trending on social media, Daily Trust reported.

“I’m so excited. I feel fulfilled actually. This is actually my first Ramadan lecture and then Ramadan is one of the pillars of Islam.

“It’s like gathering people and letting them be aware of what Allah says, so that we can follow the rules that Allah has set. So I’m so happy that people that we called came here,” she added in parts of the video.

Over the past years, a growing number of celebrities have been converting to Islam, joining the fastest-growing religion in the world.

In Nigeria, Nollywood celebrities are also part of this, with many of them making decision to accept the faith.

Vivian Metchie, Liz Da Silva, and Lola Alao were part of those who took the decision to become Muslims.
