UFC Fighter Kevin Lee: “Islam Saved Me from Drugs”

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter Kevin Lee has revealed that accepting Islam has helped him to deal with the dark drug spiral he entered after a serious knee injury which could have destroyed his life.

Speaking to TheDeenShowTV on YouTube, ‘the Motown Phenom’ said:

“I came from straight sin, so once I tore my knee and had the surgery, I was introduced to pain pills,” Sportskeeda reported.

And once you’re introduced to pain pills, then it kind of starts a downward spiral through different drugs and different things that seem like the answer at the time. Like that’s what you need to feel whole… I went through that spiral for about a year-and-a-half.”

In a big surprise to many of his fans, Lee announced his conversion to Islam in January this year.

The 30-year-old fighter converted to Islam in 2021, yet he only disclosed this on January 10, 2023.

“I spoke with God, this was before I even became a Muslim. Just as clear as me and you are talking, I felt like God told me, ‘Hey, you’ve been a Muslim this whole time. You are Muslim.’ I don’t feel like I reverted, I feel like I woke up to the realization that that’s what I’ve been the whole time,” he added.

Islam is the fastest-growing religion in the world, with the number of Muslims set to grow at more than twice the rate of the overall world population between 2015 and 2060 according to research by the Pew Research Center.

Earlier this year, Rodtang Jitmuangnon, the reigning ONE Championship flyweight Muay Thai champion, converted to Islam.

Also in February, Father Hilarion Heagy, a prominent Eastern Christian Priest based in California, United States embraced Islam, according to various sources.
