The Buddhist Monk Takes Shahada Before Marrying Muslim Fiancé

Rodtang Jitmuangnon, the reigning ONE Championship flyweight Muay Thai champion, has converted to Islam, taking the shahada before marrying his Muslim fiancé.

‘The Iron Man’ declared the shahada, the Muslim profession of faith, ahead of his wedding to Aida Looksaikongdin.

Prior to the wedding he became Buddhist monk for a brief period, but he is now a Muslim.

“Also just to clarify, he is Muslim now, he is full Muslim,” an interpreter for Rodtang said alongside him during an Instagram live video, where he answered questions from fans about his faith, South China Morning Post reported.

“He took a Shahadah and became Muslim,” the interpreter added.

Muslim Alhamdulillah

When one fan asked him “are you Muslim?” following his marriage to Aida – who also appeared on camera in the Instagram video – Rodtang replied “yeah, Alhamdulillah [praise be to God]”.

“We make it brother, he is Muslim now,” his interpreter added.

Islam is the fastest-growing religion in the world, with the number of Muslims set to grow at more than twice the rate of the overall world population between 2015 and 2060 according to research by the Pew Research Center.

Earlier this month, former Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter Kevin Lee announced his conversion to Islam.
