Four Muslim pioneers and thinkers have made it to Time magazine’s inaugural TIME100 AI List, highlighting the 100 most influential people in artificial intelligence (AI).

Assembled by TIME’s editors and reporters, the 2023 TIME100 AI issue includes 100 leaders, pioneers, innovators, and thinkers who are shaping today’s AI landscape.

“TIME’s mission is to highlight the people and ideas that are making the world a better, more equitable place,” said TIME Chief Executive Officer Jessica Sibley in a statement.

“At this critical moment of exceptional growth and advancement in AI, we are proud to reveal the first-ever TIME100 AI list to recognize the individuals leading AI innovation, including those advancing major conversations to promote equity in AI.”

The list included four Muslim figures, namely, Lila Ibrahim, COO Google DeepMind, Mustafa Suleyman, CEO and Co-Founder of Inflection AI, Omar Al Olama, the world’s first Minister of Artificial Intelligence, United Arab Emirates, and Rumman Chowdhury, CEO, and Co-Founder of Humane Intelligence.

Lila Ibrahim is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Google DeepMind. DeepMind, which merged with Google Brain in 2023, is described as a unique blend of a startup, an academic lab, and a global tech giant. Ibrahim, along with DeepMind’s founders Demis Hassabis and Shane Legg, recently signed a statement acknowledging the critical nature of AI risks, comparing them to those of pandemics and nuclear war.

Mustafa Suleyman: CEO and Co-Founder of Inflection AI
