Atlanta Muslims Feed the Fasting in Drive Thru Iftars

The Impact of Kindness

The Spring Green staff developed the first effort to feed five hundred Muslims a day. They also kicked off a Launch Good campaign to raise $50,000 to feed over 500 hundred Muslims each day of Ramadan.

“Allah truly sent us the help for this effort. People came to help cut vegetables, volunteer their time to serve, and donated close to $20,000 to the effort thus far,” Jamila Jihad told AboutIslam.net.

The Success of the Drive-thru Iftar

The community was informed to drive-up in the restaurant parking lot between 6pm – 8pm for iftar. Visitors will have a variety of options, including chicken, fish, lamb, and vegetable dinners to choose from. Each car can request up to seven platters for their family and request.

In addition to food platters, community members were served dates, water, and utensils to make everything available and easy on the fasting believers.

The drive-thru iftar feeds between 450-590 people each day during the evening hours. The cars typically line up in the mosque parking lot and volunteers serve community members while using social distancing measures.

“I found the drive through iftar extremely organized and well put together. I would pull up, request my food, and receive hot platters for my family. It has saved me from having to cook every night,” Amina Hassan told AboutIslam.net.

The Need

Although volunteers and cash donations have immensely helped the start of this Ramadan initiative, they still need more to fulfill the intention of feeding five hundred Muslims each day in Ramadan. This campaign is short by $30,000 but the faith of the organizers remains constant and strong.

“I made duaa for guidance and Allah guided me to push forward with this effort no matter what. Allah gave me an opportunity to help and we all benefit from serving humanity during a time of need,” Jamilah Jihad said.

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever gives iftar to one who is fasting will have a reward like his, without that detracting from the reward of the fasting person in the slightest,” narrated by al-Tirmidhi.

All donations can be sent to the Launchgood campaign.
