Ramadan: Blackburn Man to Run 5K Everyday While Fasting for Charity

Running for long kilometers could be a real challenge to many people. For those fasting Ramadan, running while abstaining from food and water is a double challenge that needs strong spirit and dedication.

With aim of helping people access clean water, a Blackburn man is challenging himself to run 5k every day during Ramadan to raise funds for a water project.

Faizal Momoniat, 40, is planning to raise £5,000 to build around 33 water wells across Asia, Africa and the Middle East for the charity Benefit Mankind.

“This Ramadhan (2022), I have set myself a challenge. I will be running 5k (3.1 miles) everyday for 30 days whilst fasting,” Momoniat wrote on a JustGiving page.

He added, “Please give how much you can for this excellent project. It will help people with clean accessible water.”

Time for Charity

With a few days left before Ramadan, he hopes the training and fitness schedule he has maintained for several years will help him.

So far, Momoniat’s Justgiving page has raised £119.

Earlier this month, Tariq Mahmood, a Peterborough man, announced he would be climbing Britain’s highest mountain next month to raise money to build an orphanage in Indonesia.

Known as ‘Ramadan Man’, Madmood will climb Scotland’s Ben Nevis on 23 April this year, which will take him to 1,345 meters above sea-level while fasting.

In Ramadan, adult Muslims, save the sick and those traveling, abstain from food, drink, smoking and sex between dawn and sunset.

Generosity and charity are generally blessed in Islamic Shari’ah, however, it’s specially blessed during the month of Ramadan.

Multiplies rewards, for one thing, Ramadan is a blessed month where the rewards for all of our good deeds are multiplied.
