Can I Gift Non-Halal Stuff to Non-Muslim Parents?

30 September, 2020
Q I converted to Islam recently. I love my parents and want to keep a good relation with them after embracing Islam. Can a Muslim gift non-halal stuff such as alcohol, pork and cigarettes to his/her non-Muslim parents?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

In this fatwa:

1- The general rule is what Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: There is no obedience to creation when that means disobedience to Allah.

2- It is not permissible for a Muslim to buy non-halal stuff such as alcohol or pork and gift to non-Muslim parents.

3- Instead, you should honor and respect your parents. Always try your best to show mercy and keep the communication open with them.
