Can I Gift Non-Halal Stuff to Non-Muslim Parents?

Q I converted to Islam recently. I love my parents and want to keep a good relation with them after embracing Islam. Can a Muslim gift non-halal stuff such as alcohol, pork and cigarettes to his/her non-Muslim parents?

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful. 

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

In this fatwa:

  • The general rule is what Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: There is no obedience to creation when that means disobedience to Allah.
  • It is not permissible for a Muslim to buy non-halal stuff such as alcohol or pork and gift to non-Muslim parents.
  • Instead, you should honor and respect your parents. Always try your best to show mercy and keep the communication open with them.
