Does the Quran Permit Domestic Violence Between Spouses?

28 July, 2022
Q Is there anything in the Quran that justifies domestic violence between husband and wife?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

In this fatwa:

The Quran established the utmost rights for our spouses in equity, love and fidelity. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was furious with anyone who stepped out of line with their spouses. It is important to model ourselves after the Prophet (peace be upon him) who never raised his hand in anger.
