Repenting from ‘Shirk’ (Associating Partners with God)

10 April, 2017
Q I think I may have committed shirk. Can I be forgiven?

Asalamu Alaikum,

Thank you for contacting About Islam with your question.

Dr. Shabir Ally addresses this question in the video below:

Safiyyah Ally: OK, Dr. Shabir, here’s a question from a Muslim who says he’s not sure if he’s committed shirk or not and how he can be forgiven.

Dr. Shabir Ally: Well, to begin with, when we do repent, we are guaranteed that God will forgive us so long as our repentance is sincere.

And sincere repentance means we stop doing the wrong thing. We express our regret to God.

And we repair whatever wrong we have done to anyone else.

And we follow up with a good deed. So, start doing good deeds and leave off whatever you thought was questionable or bordering on shirk or associated partners with God.

I hope this helps answer your question. Please keep in touch.

Walaikum Asalam.
