Making the best of the fasting month of Ramadan, Coventry runner Haroon Mota is planning to complete the Boston Marathon while fasting Ramadan to give back to children in need.

Haroon says that this marathon will be ‘extra special’ for him as it will earn him the title of Six Star Finisher which means he will have run six major marathons in the world; London, Berlin, Chicago, New York, Tokyo, and Boston, Coventry Telegraph reported.

He also wanted to take part in the tenth anniversary of the 2013 Boston Marathon attack, to address Islamophobia and educate people on his faith.

Haroon ran his first Marathon in 2012 for teenage cancer trust.

“I never would have thought that 10 years later I would have run twenty-one marathons and be here at the start of a sixth and final world marathon major. It’s a massively proud moment to be where I am,” he said.

Ramadan is the holiest month in the Islamic calendar. The blessed month of Ramadan, a time of reflection, kicked off on Thursday, March 23.

Last month, former Race Across the World winner Emon Choudhury said he was running the Adidas Manchester Marathon while fasting to raise funds for a charity.

Also in March, Jamshed Miah announced plans for a grueling 22-day trek in the Annapurna range of mountains in Nepal to raise funds for relief efforts.
