The Qatar World Cup 2022 comes to an end tonight, as the defending champions France takes on Argentina at Lusail Stadium in Doha.
Though all six Muslim countries participating in the tournament have crashed out, including Morocco, whose fairy tale journey ended with a remarkable 4th place, Muslim players are still present in the final.
The main focus today will be on the French national team, dominated by migrants, includes three Muslim players.

Other French Muslim players missed the 2022 World Cup due to injury including Real Madrid’s superstar Karim Benzema, Chelsea’s central midfielder N’Golo Kante, and Juventus playmaker Paul Pogba.

Ousmane Dembélé
Dembélé is a French professional footballer who plays as a winger for La Liga club Barcelona and the France national team. He was born in Vernon to Mauritanian-Senegalese mother and a Malian father.
Dembélé began his career at Rennes before joining Dortmund in 2016. After winning 20 caps and scoring five goals at youth level, Dembélé made his senior international debut for France in 2016.
He was a member of the France squad that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup, also featuring at UEFA Euro 2020, and 2022 World Cup.
Dembele earned the nickname “Mosquito” due to his remarkable speed on the pitch. He has participated in all six World Cup games played so far.
Youssouf Fofana
Fofana is a French professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Ligue 1 club Monaco and the France national team. He was born in 1999 in Paris to Malian parents. Fofana was a youth international for France from under-19 to under-21 level.
On 15 September 2022, Fofana received his first call-up to the France national team, for two UEFA Nations League matches and was called on November with Les Bleus for the World Cup.
Fofana played all the six matches France played 2022 football world cup, and is certain to be in the French squad when it takes on Argentina in FIFA World Cup Final 2022 Sunday.
Ibrahima Konate
Ibrahima Konaté is a French professional footballer who plays for Premier League club Liverpool and the France national team. Konaté received his first call-up to the senior France national team on 4 June 2022 for the UEFA Nations League, replacing Raphaël Varane due to injury.
Commenting on his inclusion in the country’s official squad list for FIFA World Cup 2022, Konate said on Instagram:
“What a pride and what an honor to be able to represent France for the biggest competition. This is a childhood dream come true.”
