Charity begins at home, so goes a popular saying.
In line with that, Muslim students from several Islamic schools in Windsor-Essex, Canada have donated more than 100 coats and winter gear to the UHC- Hub of Opportunities.
The free coat drive was led by students from Al-Hijra and An-Noor Islamic schools along with the Rose City Islamic Center.

“As a Muslim community we would love to draw a lovely smile on the kids and other people who don’t have coats and seeing that smile just means everything to everyone and especially to me,” Al-Hijra student Leen Al Hamayda told iHeart Radio.
“Since winters in Canada are extremely chilly by donating these coats, we would love to bring joy to everyone and ensure they have a comfortable winter.”
The coat drive, now in its twelfth year, have seen more than 4,500 coats along with winter clothing donated so far.

Giving Back
An-Noor student Manaal Hussain added that it is all about giving back to the community.
“It’s so cold and the fact that we get to do something, we’re young, we’re 13, we’re 12 and we can get to do something, I mean that is incredible,” says Hussain.
Muslims usually lead similar efforts to help the homeless during winter.
“The Messenger of Allah(pbuh) said: “Any Muslim who clothes a fellow Muslim with a garment will be covered by the protection of Allah as long as a shred from it (that clothe) remains on him.” Al-TirmidhÏ in al-Sunan, Ch.: (41), 4:651 Hadith #2484.
To help families survive winter, volunteers from Islamic Relief Canada came together earlier this month to assemble winter care kits for the people in need
Their effort was part of national Winter Warmth campaign launched by the Islamic Charity.
