Saudi Arabia pulled off a miracle 2-1 win over Argentina today, in a stunning result that immediately became the biggest win in Saudi Arabia’s history. 

Argentina, one of the tournament’s favorites, travelled to Qatar on the back of 35 games without defeat for two years, CNN reported.

Argentina captain Lionel Messi scored an early penalty to put his side in the lead. Yet, two second-half goals from Saleh Al-Shehri and Salem Al Dawsari turned the game on its head.

Thousands of Saudi fans inside the Lusail Stadium celebrated their unexpected victory.

Declared Man of the Match, Saudi goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais made fantastic saves, keeping the result in favor of “The Green”.

Saudi Arabia is one of six Muslim majority countries participating in Qatar World Cup 2022. The other Muslim countries are Qatar, Tunisia, Morocco, Iran, and Senegal.
