US Muslim Communities Show Solidarity with Black Lives Matter

Fighting Racism Inside Schools 

The Islamic Schools League of America also issued a statement and action plan June 1 on behalf of American Muslim schools.

“We are asking ourselves: How can we make Islamic schools more inclusive? How can support school leaders and educators to cultivate Muslim American students to become anti-racist activists grounded in the Qur’an and Sunnah?

“We plan to provide opportunities for dialogue, thought-leadership and training that advances the above goals by: 

“Amplifying the voices and experiences of African American and black students and families and other racial or ethnic minority groups

“Increasing awareness of racism within our schools and institutions

“Training leaders to understand and analyze implicit and explicit bias as it relates to hiring, retention, student diversity, discipline, scholarships and financial aid, curricular and co-curricular choices, and more

“Providing educators with curricular resources that celebrate the diverse backgrounds and rich histories of African American and black individuals.”

Unfortunately, Black Muslims throughout the US consistently encounter discrimination and anti-Blackness in Muslim spaces.

According to Muslim Anti-Racism Intra Muslim Study, 82% of participants reported that they have experienced racial, ethnic, or religious discrimination.

Constant racial microaggressions can incite various micro-traumas, including anger, anxiety, stress, and aging.
