The largest annual convention of North American Muslims is set to start this weekend in Toronto.
It will be held virtually for the second time due to coronavirus, as organizers promise a unique and safe experience for attendance.
“We hope you’re all doing well and keeping safe! We’re so excited to announce that the #RIS2021 program is LIVE. You can check it out on our website at http://risconvention.com! #TogetherInSpirit,” the Reviving Islamic Spirit (RIS) Twitter account says.
This year’s convention is themed “The Making of a Better World: Balancing Self and Society”, and will run from Saturday, December 25th through Sunday, December 26th.
The theme of the convention will also discuss rising anti-Muslim hate in Canada.
“Muslims in Canada witnessed the horrific attack that left four individuals – three generations – of a single Muslim family dead in the city of London, Ontario,” RIS website wrote.
“With hate staring us down, what are Muslims to do? How should they respond? Is an inclusive and truly plural society still possible or is that dream fading into oblivion? And more importantly, how should Muslims strike a balance between their private lives of worship and obedience to Allah and His Messenger and their engagement in civil society?”
