Muslim Group Receives Award for Generosity

In recognition of its generosity and compassion, a leading Canadian Muslim group has received the 2021 Community Challenge Award by the City of Mississauga following its thanksgiving campaign that raised $50,000 and 2,390 pounds of food for the Mississauga Food Bank.

“On behalf of the great City of Mississauga and members of my Council, it gives me great pleasure to congratulate ICNA Canada on receiving the Community Challenge Award for your contributions to the Mayor’s Thanksgiving Food Drive,” said Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie, Iqra.ca reported.

“With your donation, we not only met this year’s goal but exceeded it, raising over $650,000 and over 370,000 pounds of food for our hungry neighbors.

ICNA Canada’s President Mohammad Ijaz, along with representatives of the mosques and departments of ICNA Canada, accepted the award from Mayor Bonnie Crombie who was accompanied by Meghan Nicholls, CEO of The Mississauga Food Bank to thank the organizations.

ICNA Canada’s affiliated mosques, departments, and institutions collaborated in the thanksgiving food drive to reach the goal of $50,000.

Other organizations contributed to the campaign, including ICNA Sisters Canada’ Wing, ICNA Relief Canada, Al Falah Islamic Centre, Ar-Rahman Islamic Centre and the Islamic Community Centre of Milton.

ICNA Relief Canada is a department of ICNA Canada, working in the field of community and social development. The Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) is federally registered in Canada as a charitable organization since 1970.

Canadian Muslims are known for their generosity towards their community.

After catastrophic flooding and storms earlier in November, teams from Islamic Relief Canada were on the ground in British Columbia, making sure no one is left without support.
