Muslim Charity Walks for Human Dignity in Toronto

TORONTO – A leading Canadian Muslim charity organization held a walk for dignity on Saturday, May 20, marching to raise awareness about every human being’s right to live a dignified life.

“At IDRF, we believe that dignity is about ensuring that people around the world and at home in Canada, have the right to be safe and self-sufficient,” said Zeib Jeeva, Chair of the IDRF (International Development and Relief Foundation), Iqra.com reported on Saturday.

The 5km walk began at 9 am at Queen’s Park in front of the Ontario Legislature with opening remarks by Jeeva, followed by speeches from political and community leaders.

“IDRF first launched the walk name and date on its Dignity Tour in September 2017 as they travelled across the country to speak to social progressives, activists, advocates, young professionals and youth about the need to ensure that all people locally and abroad have access to basic human rights, food, shelter, water and safety,” said the organization in a news release.

“The walk is an opportunity to raise awareness about the work of IDRF both locally across Canada as well as globally throughout 25+ projects around the world,” said the organizers.

“The event is also an opportunity to raise funds to further the work that IDRF is doing in these countries as well as to start new projects that support the development and empowerment of women, children, men, orphans and families.”

According to the organization, the Dignity walk is set to become an annual event which it will begin host in different cities around the country in coming years to raise awareness and funds for the programming that it runs locally and abroad.
