MAS-ICNA: Islamic Convention Opens Friday in Chicago

CHICAGO – The 17th Annual MAS-ICNA Convention, one of the largest and most diverse Islamic conventions in North America, kicks off in Chicago today, Friday, December 28.

Speakers and participants will discuss the challenges facing American Muslims and their work to build a better future.

The annual convention of the Muslim American Society (MAS) and the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) will run from December 28-30.

This year’s theme for the summit, which will be held in Chicago’s McCormick Congress Center, is “Qur’an: The Light to the World.”

The event is expected to draw thousands of Muslims from across the United States and Canada to McCormick Place in Chicago, known as the nation’s largest convention center.

The number has increased from only 500 attendants who appeared at the first convention that followed 9/11 twin tower attacks.

This year’s speakers include an impressive list of world-renowned scholars and speakers such as Sheikh Omar Suleiman, Shaykh Zaid Shakir, Yasmin Mogahed, Imam Suhaib Webb, and activist Linda Sarsour.

The activities include artistic performances, exhibitions, business meetings, a Qur’an recitation contest, and an exhibition.

ICNA is one of the largest, non-profit, grassroots Muslim organizations in North America with many projects, programs, and activities designed to help in reforming society at large.

Since 1968, ICNA has worked to build relations between communities by devoting itself to education, outreach, social services and relief efforts.
