What can we do?
Identify the Need
Community and local Muslim organization can reach out to members in their wider community to identify needs to make communal Ramadan programs and activities accessible for all. Many homes may need computers or reliable internet connection to stay connected to their communities.
Acts of Charity/Service
Our communities are doing an incredible job with providing services and support to the wider community during this time. Therefore, we must continue to identify the areas of need to focus our charitable efforts.
Also, we must identify ways to keep marginalized community members connected and provide resources for masjids in economically disadvantaged communities.
Our service acts must reach beyond the scope of providing food and clothing to address the need for connection and equal access to knowledge and spiritual leadership for all.
Allah says in Surah Al Nisa’ (4), Aayah 135:
“O you who believe! Stand firmly for justice, as witnesses to God, even as against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, and whether it be (against) rich or poor; for God can best protect both. Follow not the lust (of your hearts), lest ye swerve, and if ye distort (justice) or decline to do justice, verily God is well acquainted with all that ye do.”
