Renner formally embraced Islam in August 2024 after years of feeling drawn to the faith.

“Allah put Islam on my heart five, six years ago. But I was not ready to accept it. Right? So it took five, six years and once I got the call to take my Shahada, I just listened,” she explained.

Turning Point

The Shahada, or declaration of faith, is the most sacred statement in Islam, affirming belief in one God and His messenger. For Renner, saying it marked a turning point.

“I felt like if I had not taken my Shahada, I was gonna go down a really dark road,” she said.

Now months into her new life as a Muslim, Renner describes the impact as nothing short of miraculous.

“So Islam has made my life better in every single category. And like my husband says, the closer you get to God, the more you get. And literally in every category of my life. I mean, dreams happen,” she said.

Renner made her remarks while attending the red carpet premiere for the new season of VH1’s Basketball Wives, where she makes her return to the show. But she made it clear that her renewed presence in the public eye is guided by a higher calling.

“Allah called me back to this platform, to this show, and I feel like the first time that I was here, I didn’t put my best foot forward,” she said.
