‘Muslims for MRI’ Campaign Donates £170,000 to Yorkshire Hospital

A grassroots campaign uniting mosques, businesses, charities and individuals across Dewsbury and Wakefield has raised an impressive £170,000 to support the MY Hospitals Charity’s MRI Appeal campaign, helping fund a new, state-of-the-art MRI suite at Pinderfields Hospital.

Championed by more than 60 mosques, the initiative, known as Muslims for MRI, has rallied the wider community to contribute to improving diagnostic services across the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, Dewsbury Reporter reported.

The funds raised will support the MRI Appeal’s goal of equipping the hospital with advanced diagnostic imaging technology, ultimately helping to reduce waiting times and improve patient outcomes for thousands of people across the region.

To honour their efforts, NHS staff and charity representatives hosted a special celebration event at Pinderfields. Members of the campaign were given a guided tour of the newly completed and operational MRI suite, which will feature a commemorative plaque recognising their generous contribution.

Gratitude

Keith Ramsay, chair of MY Hospitals Charity and the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, expressed deep gratitude for the group’s fundraising efforts.

“We are incredibly grateful to all those involved in the Muslims for MRI campaign for their outstanding support,” he said.

“Their efforts have directly contributed to the creation of a modern, efficient MRI suite that will benefit thousands of patients each year.

“This is a true example of community generosity making a tangible difference.”

The campaign has not only raised vital funds but also created a sense of shared purpose and unity among diverse segments of the community, all committed to enhancing local healthcare services.

Speaking on behalf of the initiative, Iqbal Bhana highlighted the pride felt by those involved.

“We are humbled and proud to support such an important cause.

“This project brought people together from all walks of life to support the NHS, and it’s a moment of pride for our community to see the results of that unity and compassion.”

The success of Muslims for MRI serves as an example of how faith-based and community-led campaigns can drive meaningful change within the public health system. Organisers said the initiative was rooted in a shared sense of duty and compassion for neighbours and fellow citizens.

The MRI suite will play a key role in helping doctors diagnose a wide range of conditions more quickly and accurately, from neurological disorders to cancers, improving care across the Mid Yorkshire region.

An official opening ceremony for the new MRI suite took place in April, showcasing the new facility and its anticipated impact on regional healthcare.
