Free hot food is the best thing the poor and needy can get on a cold winter day.
Serving one of West Yorkshire’s poorest neighborhoods, volunteers at the Halifax Muslim community have been distributing free hot foot to the needy and less fortunate for years.
In Halifax city, Northern England, Jilani Kitchen serves free hot meals at sunset every Thursday.

A Halifax Community Fridge, which also operates from Madni Mosque, has been serving the needy for more than 900 consecutive day.
“We feel it’s massively needed. This is somewhere within the local community and is quite discreet,” Abid Karim, one of the volunteers, told itv news.
The kitchen takes inspiration from a 600-year-old kitchen in Baghdad where Sunni and Shiite Muslims eat together.
Similarly, volunteers work to serve their community regardless of religious affiliations.
“We’ve had a 95-year-old woman come to visit. That touched all of our hearts and we help that lady every single day of the week,” volunteer Waseem Khan said.
Islam lays a great emphasis on the virtue of neighborliness. It also stresses on Muslims’ individual duty to be good to their neighbors.
This act of generosity falls in line with what many British Muslims have been doing to help their community.
In May 2021, volunteers from the Central Jamia Mosque set up a community fridge to offer free food.
