Birmingham Mosque, Security Company Raise Funds for Homeless

A local Birmingham mosque and a security company have come up together with a brilliant idea to help the homeless during Christmas season, releasing a song to raise money for their cause.

“The KMAP [Kokni Muslim Association Birmingham, Masjid Al Falaah] is one of several local charities we work with,” Shaun Kennedy, the Country President at Securitas told BirminghamLive.

“Last year we were delighted to donate £10,000 to support the efforts of Finance Manager Ashfak Ahem and his team of volunteers in providing hot meals to those most in need during the coldest months. This year, we were keen to do more.”

The idea of the song followed a talent competition held in 2021 summer for everyone working in Securitas UK.

Winners at the competition came together to create the song ‘Ascending – Song for the homeless’ in a bid to raise money to help the homeless in Birmingham.

“A small group of Securitas colleagu6es have recorded a song to help raise money for the Homeless Shelter in Birmingham. Listen to ASCENDING, our Securitas song for the homeless, and please donate what you can via our JustGiving page,” Masjid Al Falaah wrote on Justgiving.

Helping Homeless

Till the time of writing, the fundraising campaign raised more than £10,250. The funds will go towards the KMAB work in providing the homeless with food packages.

British Muslims usually lead similar efforts to help the homeless during winter.

In January 2021, several Muslim organizations in Birmingham kicked off “Our Masjids with the Homeless” initiative to help the homeless. The groups include Al-Suffa Institute and the Great Barr Muslim Foundation.

Different mosques also welcome the homeless to their shelters during the winter season.

For example, the Green Lane Masjid and Community Centre (GLMCC) in Birmingham, opened its doors to shelter homeless last year.
