Aaron is an American Jew born and raised in New York. His family were never orthodox Jews but Judaism did play an important part in their life and identity. 

Music was always a big part in his life. One day a friend told him about Indonesia and that he could study ethno musicology there. When he got there he never told anyone about his religion he stated he was Buddhist. He was worried people would show hostility towards him. 

He wasn’t interested in Islam at first. He felt Islam was just a local religion. He started to look into the spirituality of Islam and he started to become interested.
