Are Body Piercings Allowed in Islam?

11 October, 2022
Q Body piercings have become a common trend over the past decade. To what extent are these body piercings allowed?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

In this fatwa:

Piercings that are considered the norm in cultures of the world, such as ear or nose piercings, are permissible for women. We know this because women at the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him) would have their ears and noses pierced. However, keep in mind the issues of imitating the people of bad character, as well as staying away from body mutilation.
