Answer
Wa `alaykum as-Salamu wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
In this fatwa:
It is known that Hajj is not obligatory unless one has the physical and financial ability. So, as long as the woman does not have this ability, she should not burden her husband with her Hajj finances unless that is granted to her from him or any other relative.
In responding to your about paying hajj costs by a woman’s relatives, Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and an Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, states:
Hajj is not obligatory on a woman if she does not have the independent means to undertake it. However, she is allowed to accept the favor of her husband or father or brother if any one of them is willing to finance it.
Although a husband may provide for his wife’s Hajj, if he has the means, he is not bound to do so, especially if he is not financially solvent.
Allah Almighty knows best.
