How to Help My Sister Stop Her Habit of Masturbation?

04 November, 2024
Q My younger sister told me about her habit of masturbation. She is 17 now and she says she has been doing it every night since she was 10 yeas old! She says that she didn't know before that what she has been doing is a kind of masturbation or sexual act. she puts her right leg over her lift leg and presses them like vibrating. She doesn't make it for sexual pleasure as she says but it's like a habit that she can't fall asleep without making it. She says that no matter how tired she is or how busy her day was, she can't fall asleep unless she makes this act. There are some observations that I think might be useful to mention: I believe she is obsessed with the opposite sex and she thinks all her classmates (boys) like her and she usually says that she wish to have a boyfriend. She has low self-esteem when it comes to external look and beauty. She is somehow short and she is not happy with that because she seems younger than her real age. Please tell me how can I help her and what steps should we take. I don't want to involve my parents in this issue because they'll get mad at her.

Answer

Answer:

As-Salamu ‘Aleikom,

The urge to masturbate is very normal. It is just a sign that she is a developed, young woman.

With puberty comes a lot of changes physically, emotionally, and mentally.

As you probably know, a lot of hormones change during puberty and so the sexual urges are completely normal.

Regarding masturbation, while in many societies it is considered an acceptable way to release sexual tension as opposed to having sex before marriage, in Islam it is discouraged based on which you have written about her doing it every single night since she was 10.
