Will The Dajjal Be Supported By A Jewish Army?

20 January, 2017
Q Salam, Islam teaches us not to be anti-Semitic, but when the world is coming to an end, when prophet Isa (Jesus-AS) descends to face the Dajjal, is it true the Dajjal will bring along 70,000 Jews with him? So, wouldn't that mean they should be considered as our enemies? Also, what is the wisdom of sending Gog and Magog when the world is coming to an end? Thanks.

Answer

Asalamu Alaikum Muhammad,

Thank you for contacting About Islam with your question.

First, we need to understand what “anti-Semitism” means. The word “Semitic” is an adjective derived from “Shem”, one of the three sons of Noah (peace be upon him-PBUH), according to the Bible.

The descendants of Shem are usually called ‘Semites’. The concept of “Semitic” peoples is derived from Biblical accounts; especially from the stories of those people who inhabited the ancient Biblical lands.

Languages like Arabic, Amharic, Aramaic, Akkadian, and Hebrew are called Semitic languages; and the three religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are called Semitic religions.

From the foregoing, it should be obvious to anyone that anti-Semitism should mean opposition to any one of the Semitic peoples, their religions, or languages.

But strangely, under the influence of Zionists, the term “anti-Semitism” now stands for any criticism of the Israeli government’s policies or the actions of a particular Jew or a group of Jews.

This means that the Zionists cry “anti-Semitism” even when someone has a legitimate reason to raise his voice against the atrocities committed by the Israeli government’s agencies or specifically by any criminal among them.

It is important to note the Zionists have been successful in convincing most Western leaders that they had a duty to atone for the atrocities their forefathers had committed against the Jews in the past; and so, those leaders were all too willing to be lenient to the Israeli complaints about “anti-Semitism”, whether there is a legal justification for such allegation or not.

And as far as Muslims are concerned, they are not allowed to do any kind of injustice to anyone. It is a clear and categorical command of Allah Almighty in the Quran that they should be keen to do justice even against their own interests; because, being witnesses for justice is standing out for Allah.

Muslims are also commanded to respect and honor the People of the Book, namely the Jews and Christians. This means, a Muslim cannot hate a Jew for being a Jew; or a Christian for being a Christian.

But when the Prophet (PBUH), in one of the hadiths, tells us of what will happen in the End of Times, such as the Anti-Christ will come with an army of 70,000 Jews as supporters, we need to consider the matter objectively.

On that account, we have no business hating all Jews; just as we have no right to despise all the Jews for the atrocities inflicted on the Palestinians by the Zionists among the Jews. Just as no one has any right to hate an entire group based on the actions of a few from among that group.

We know that the Christian New Testament speaks of the Jews as guilty of betraying and persecuting Jesus before persuading the Romans to brutally crucify him; and for that reason the Christian West unjustly relegated the Jewish people as a whole for something their ancestors did to the ghettos of western cities.

In Germany, the Jews were confined to concentration camps. The Germans under Hitler even massacred hundreds of thousands of them in gas chambers. But ironically, the descendants of those victims of the Holocaust now subject the Palestinian Arabs (Christians and Muslims alike) to ghettos and other grave oppressions.

And any opposition – nay criticism – to the beastly injustices in Palestine is labeled “anti-Semitism”.

We may read an account of what is going to happen in the End of Times: It is said that Prophet Jesus will pray behind Imam Mahdi and after the prayer, Jesus will say:

”Open the gate” The gate will be opened and the Dajjal (the Anti-Christ) will be waiting behind it accompanied by an army of 70,000 Jews of Isfahan and will be dressed in robes of green colored satin. (Muslim)

Then Jesus will slay the Dajjal. And none of the Jews who came following the Dajjal will be able to escape.
This is about the future.

For the present, we need to evaluate what is happening right now before our very eyes and take appropriate policy decisions. But of course, we are not justified to have an attitude of hostility to ALL the Jews.

For instance, we may note that some of the staunchest criticisms to the inhuman policies of Israel come from within Israel — i.e., from Jewish people themselves.

Gog and Magog

Yajuj and Majuj (Gog and Magog) are mentioned in the Quran as well as in hadith. For instance:

{[…] until such a time as Gog and Magog are let loose [upon the world] and swarm down from every corner [of the earth].} (Al-Anbiyaa’ 21:96)

And again:

{They said: “O Dhul-qarnain! the Gog and Magog (People) do great mischief on earth: shall we then render you tribute in order that you might erect a barrier between us and them?} (Al-Kahf 18:94)

We may consider the Gog and Magog people a savage race of the past, whose likes can be expected to appear in future too. But we have no real basis to identify them with any of the nations now existing. As mentioned in the hadith, we may be certain that they will be destroyed by Imam Mahdi and Jesus (peace be upon him).

The predictions about Gog and Magog, as well as about the Anti-Christ (the Dajjal), serve as warnings to the Muslims in general. Therefore, we Muslims must work hard to preserve our religion against all the possible dangers.

There is no room for complacency and laziness. We should keep on working with hope and expectation of good results and rewards from Allah Almighty.

I hope this answers your question. Please keep in touch.

Walaikum Asalam.
