Q What is the applicability of the violent verses in the Quran in different times?

Asalamu Alaikum,

Thank you for contacting About Islam with your question.

Dr. Shabir Ally addresses this question in the video below:

Ilyas Ally: Dr. Shabir, the question we have here is about the violent verses in the Quran and the questioner’s asking: why did they only applied to the historical events, but when the Quran is supposed to be for all of mankind throughout history?

Dr. Shabir Ally: Yeah, well indeed, the Quran is for all of humankind throughout history. But various verse applied to various circumstances and conditions. They have conditions, and so on, applied to them.

For example, the verses that deal with violence [aggression from non-Muslims] at the time the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), you can say that these verses will apply to similar situations.

But the difficulty is that our situation now is not similar. In fact, it is very dissimilar to the situation at the time of the prophet in many different ways.

I hope this helps answer your question. Please keep in touch.

Walaikum Asalam.
