Answer
Short Answer: Yes, God says he is interested in each of us. The Qur’an says that God is closer to a person than his or her jugular vein. Just as the jugular vein takes blood from the brain to the heart, it also takes knowledge of God from the brain to the spiritual heart. Science justifies this belief, actually: Scientists are finding that there is a “God” part of the brain that connects us to spiritual awareness. Since the possibility of constant spiritual presence with God is within a person’s own brain, certainly He has a vested interest in every person’s life.
The Qur’an tells us,
“Certainly, We [God as the Majestic Unity] created humanity, and We know what suggestions his/her soul makes to him/her. We are nearer to him/her than his/her jugular vein.” (Quran 50:16)
The “God” Part of the Brain
Scientists have been researching what has been called the “God” part of the brain.
Some scientists are finding that parts of the left side of the brain are directly connected to spiritual awareness.
In a religious state of deep meditation and prayer, a person is able to subdue the right side of the brain (the part that focuses on self) and further enhance awareness of a higher power and his or her connection to that power.
In the same way that the jugular vein takes blood from the brain and to the heart, the “God” part of the brain is able to bring spiritual awakening to the heart of one’s soul.
Since the possibility of constant spiritual presence with God is within a person’s own brain, certainly He has a vested interest in every person’s life.
And He is All-Powerful to know his or her every thought and deed.
The Importance of Feeding the Soul
The problem comes when a person puts more practice into building up the right side of the brain, focusing on self, instead of the God part of the left side, which focuses on spiritual health.
This causes a person to lose the balance between the physical self and the spiritual self.
We each need to nourish both the body and the spirit in order to be completely whole.
The Qur’an promises that, even if someone fails to nourish his or her thirsty soul, God is able to recover what has been neglected:
“He is the One who sends down rain after hope has been abandoned. [He] distributes His mercy. He is the Guardian, the Most Praiseworthy. Among His signs is the creation of the skies and Earth and the living creatures He has dispersed among them. He has power to assemble them when He wills.” (Quran 40:28-29)
“Those who believe in God and cling to Him will be shown His mercy and grace and be guided to Him along the Straight Way.” (Quran 4:175)
Islam: Peace Through Complete Submission to God
“Islam” means ‘peace through complete submission to God.’
This means that the whole person –mind, body, and soul— is in a state of spiritual unity with the Creator and the universe.
Muslims believe that each person is born with a soul and heart completely submitted to God.
When a person strays from the Straight Way, he or she has strayed from the natural state in which God has created him or her.
It is important then for the person to meditate in prayer, repent, seek forgiveness, and rededicate him- or herself to God.
“Whoever sins and wrongs his/her own soul, and then seeks God’s forgiveness will find God to be the Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Quran 4:110)
A Suggestion: Try To Connect With God
You have stated that you believe some power or energy is responsible for creation.
I think this is the God part of your brain trying to hold onto that submission that you were given at birth.
I have a suggestion for you.
Try to relax, shutting out all negativity and distractions, and meditate. Try to connect with your spiritual self.
Imagine a bright light. This is the light of the universe that energizes and protects you.
Let your body intake this light. Whatever you perceive this light to be, let it connect you to the universe and help you awaken the God-consciousness that is already within you.
May the light of the universe enter your heart, mind, and soul and inspire you to begin a spiritual journey that will lead you to a closer connection with the Creator.
And Allah knows best.
