Can I Avoid Marriage Due to Mental Illness?

18 July, 2023
Q Assalamualaikum I have mental health issues such as panic attack's depression, anxiety which causes me physical issues too... & I also have social anxiety too… I'm fighting from these problems... My mother is the only one who can handle me in those types of situations. Is it ok if I don't get married? Will ALLAH forgive me for this?? Because I'm not doing this from my happiness. I'm doing this just because I don't want to destroy other person's life…

Answer

If you are suffering from physical and psychological symptoms, you first need to visit a doctor and get an assessment or referral to the right specialist.

Living with mental illness is challenging, but there is a solution. Treatment is very important and it will help you to feel better.

Your mom means safety for you, and that is great that you have her support. But still, you do not need to spend your life isolated and away from others.

You do not need to avoid marriage. But it is highly recommended that you deal with your anxiety and depression first.

Check out the full advice here on why it is important to trust treatment and start counseling in a situation like this.
