Defending the Muslim values and beliefs, the London Council of Imams has issued a statement Thursday criticizing Ontario school activities which promote LGBT values and defending Muslim parents’ right to exempt their children from activities that are deemed contrary to their faith.
The statement came as Thames Valley District School Board said ‘Pride month’ will be celebrated with schools and administrative buildings flying the Pride Flag during June.
Seeing these activities are contradicting with Islamic values, the LCI stressed that Muslim parents play an integral role in the education of their children. Accordingly, they have the right to “choose to have your child(ren) to attend or be absent from school.”

LCI also vowed to assist parents in this regard, “holding a series of lectures directed towards our youth to help provide faith-based clarifications on sexuality and gender issues and provide a forum to ask questions related to these sensitive matters.”

Recently, a statement signed by many Muslim scholars in North America entitled “Navigating Differences” was published, which is an attempt to offer a sense of clarity to the Muslim community and others regarding what Islam states unequivocally regarding sexual and gender norms from a theological perspective.
In Islam, Christianity, and all divine religions, same-sex relationship and marriage are totally prohibited.
Regarding the position of Islam,
Allah says in the Qur’an, “O humanity! Indeed, We created you from a male and a female, and made you into peoples and tribes so that you may ˹get to˺ know one another. Surely the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous among you. Allah is truly All-Knowing, All-Aware.” (Qur’an 49:13)
