`Eid Al-Adha is a golden opportunity to bring joy and happiness to many of the homeless and less fortunate.
Sharing the joy and blessings of `Eid with the community, an Ottawa restaurant has given free meals to the homeless during `Eid.
On Sunday, Mediterranean restaurant Phynicia took to the streets of downtown Ottawa to distribute the free meals.

“Every `Eid we do something for those in need,” Phynicia employee Amal Al Bardan told CTV news Ottawa.
“So this Eid we decided to close and do something like this.”
`Eid Al-Adha, or “Feast of Sacrifice”, marks the end of the Hajj season and is one of the two most important Islamic celebrations, together with Eid Al-Fitr.
“It’s one of the main events for Muslims,” says Amjad Elsakka, who is celebrating `Eid Al-Adha, “because it’s close to the month of Hajj, the pilgrimage for Muslims.”
The restaurant owner Firas Al Bardan said `Eid is all about giving back, and helping those who need it most.
“Our goal is to motivate people in helping others,” says Firas. “The homeless in downtown were all very happy. We gave water, sweets, pies, pizza.”
“We gave out about 100 pies and some necessaries like clothing, toothbrushes,” says Amal. “Felt very good. People were happy, so we’re glad to do this.”
During the four-day `Eid Al-Adha celebrations, a financially-able Muslim sacrifices a single sheep or goat or shares with six others in sacrificing a camel or cow as an act of worship.
It is permissible that someone in another country could perform the sacrifice on one’s behalf.
