Following the tenets of Islam and imbibing the teachings of the holy Quran, former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, one of the world’s most popular Muslim athletes, has revealed how he wishes to raise his children as true Muslims.

Speaking in a recent interview, Khabib said, “I-as a Muslim- do my best to raise my kids as true Muslims.”

“Not just in terms of ethnicity, because their parents are Muslims, but in terms of beliefs. They should understand what that means to be a Muslim- according to Islam, I think, even in this hall there are representatives of different religions and nationalities,” Essentially Sports reported.

He added, “My religion is Islam, I’m Muslim and I want my kids to be Muslims as well. Monotheists. Those are the fundamentals we believe in.”

Khabib Abdulmanapovich Nurmagomedov or ‘Habib Abdulmanap Nur Mohamed’ in Arabic is not only the UFC’s first Muslim champion, but he holds the longest undefeated streak in MMA with 29 wins.

Nurmagomedov, a married father of a daughter and a son, is from the Islamic Republic of Dagestan, located in the North Caucasus with more than 83% of the country’s population being adherents to Islam, according to ARENA Project’s 2012 survey.

The world’s Muslim champion usually wears a papakha, a traditional sheepskin hat worn by Dagestanis and other Caucasian peoples.

In October 2019, he said that Allah “the Almighty” would not look approvingly on his violence in the octagon.

Earlier in April 2018 Nurmagomedov explained that “there is nothing else more important to me than being clear with Allah. And being clear with Allah is the No.1 hardest thing in life.”

He retired in October 2020, a few months after the death of his father to coronavirus.
