One particular question I hear a lot of new Muslims asking is in regards to the Sunnah (the Prophet’s tradition). Many wonder: “If the Quran is more superior and more authentic than the Sunnah, why learn or practice the Sunnah?”
For many new Muslims, and newly practicing Muslims, it is a really hard blow when all that expectation, all that they had heard about Islam seems nearly non-existent in reality. So what should be done?
Reading a small bit of information about Islam caused 17.1% (12 people) to become interested in Islam. However, only 3 of those 12 read the Quran, while the remaining read other books or articles about Islam.
When we have a connection with our Lord, we can achieve inner peace. When we ignore our Islamic duties, and that connection is severed, anxiety and chaos are sure to follow suit. Inner peace is a gift from God and can only be achieved in the light of Islam.
The main thing that new Muslims need to do to protect their faith is to gain knowledge from sound sources of what Islam actually does teach.
Behaving how we are instructed in the Quran will help us build an unbreakable bond amongst Muslims, but Muslims must do their part first on the individual level, then on the community level, national level, then on the global level. We can’t achieve global unity if we don’t start with ourselves.
