What Happens During Each Day of a Fasting Muslim?

Allah has a lot of mercy for us as humans. He created us and so He knows best how our nature is i.e. to be forgetful. So for the person who forgets that they’re fasting and they absolutely without intention eat or drink something, they are actually excused. Let me give you this hadith. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

Whoever forgets he’s fasting and eats or drinks, let him complete his fast for it is Allah who has fed him and given him to drink.

So you can consider yourself very blessed for Allah giving you that sip of water or that morsel of food.

But that doesn’t mean that just because you got one sip or bite, you don’t have to fast anymore. You actually do. You just continue your fast in the rest of the day and then that day will still be counted for you as a valid fasting day.

There are other ways that you could end up invalidating your fast however, because this video is too short for me to go through all of that. So if you want a list of things that do and don’t invalidate your fast, you can actually go to my social media and you can find the list there. In Facebook, I’m going to put in my note’s section so it’s going to be easy for you to find.

The moment when the sun sets (Maghrib), that’s when you can start eating again. Ten minutes before Iftar, don’t forget to make du’a to Allah.

This is another time when Allah is readily accepting du’a.

So this a great time for you to be making a sincere supplication to Him for whatever you need and also thanking Him for this full day of fasting, where you’re able to control yourself and hopefully gain His mercy so that you can be forgiven.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would actually hasten to break the fast. We should do that too.

As soon as we know the sun has set, or Maghrib has settled in, we should go ahead and take a bite of a date or some water or something light.

This breaking fast meal is called Iftar. I want to remind you that iftar is just a light breakfast meal. So this is not dinner. This is just supposed to be a light meal, a light few bites, something you just put in your tummy and just quench your thirst a little bit before you go and pray Maghrib.

I actually made the mistake of stuffing myself because I didn’t know that iftar wasn’t dinner, I thought it was the same thing.

So I just went ahead and stuffed myself full of food and then I went to pray Maghrib and every time that I would prostrate, I would be like “Oh Allah! Please don’t let all the lovely food come out onto my carpet” because I was just too full.

So it makes sense that iftar is just a light meal so that you’re not so uncomfortable during Maghrib.

And then after Maghrib you can come back and you can have your feast no problem but don’t forget to go for the night prayers.

There is a du’a that you should be saying when you break your fast. This du’a is authentic and it is according the sunnah:

The thirst is gone, the veins are moistened, and the reward is confirmed if Allah wills.
