Cape Verde player Steven Moreira has shared the personal story behind his journey to Islam, saying that watching a Muslim friend pray and fast inspired him to learn more about the faith.
Speaking to Qalby Studio, Moreira said his curiosity began with simple observations of his friend’s daily worship and Ramadan fasting.
“I saw my friend praying every day and fasting in Ramadan. I started asking questions, then I tried it myself. After that, I became Muslim,” Moreira told Qalby Studio.
The Cape Verde player said his decision was not easy at first, especially because he had not been raised in a Muslim family.
“I didn’t grow up Muslim, so I was scared at first. I didn’t know how my family would react.”
But Moreira said his family’s response brought him comfort and reassurance.
“But when I told them, they said: ‘You’re a better person now.’ Alhamdulillah.”
His story has resonated with many Muslims, offering a reminder of how small acts of faith, such as prayer and fasting, can quietly inspire others to explore Islam.
