CAIRO โ Recalling anti-Muslim sentiments after 9/11 attacks, a video by world champion boxer Muhammad Ali and US actor Will Smith is making a comeback on Facebook to counter Donald Trump calls to keep Muslims out of the US.
โIt was hate, not religion that motivated the horrible acts of September 11th,โ says Smith in the video which was shared recently on the Facebook under the title โDonโt judge an entire religion by the actions of a fewโ.
โNothing could be more un-American then to respond to mindless hatred with blind vengeance.โ
Ali, who has been a Muslim for over 20 years, at the time of shooting the video, said Muslims and Islam are against killing and violence.
โPeople recognize me for being a boxer and a man of truth,โ Ali said.
โI wouldnโt be here representing Islam if it was really like terrorists make it look. I think that all people should know the truth, and come to recognize the truth, because Islam is peace.
โIโm against killing, murder and the terrorists, and the people doing that in the name of Islam, are wrong, and if I had a chance I would do something about it.โ
Muslims make up 1% of Americaโs 322 million population, according to Pew Research center.
Anti-Muslim sentiments have reached an all-time high after the rise of the so-called Islamic State, formerly known as Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
Moreover, the Republican presidential candidates, such as Donald Trump and Dr. Ben Carson, have added to increasing anti-Muslim sentiments.
Facing growing attacks on Muslims, CAIR has launched a new website, Islamophobia.org, to monitor and challenge the growing anti-Muslim bigotry.
In 2014, CAIR published โKnow Your Rights and Responsibilitiesโ pocket guide that tells American Muslims to report any actual knowledge of criminal activity without being asked by law enforcement authorities.
