South Wales Muslims Host Open `Eid in the Park

WALES – The Muslim community in Sanwsea, South Wales, has invited everyone to its `Eid in the park celebration to be held this weekend, in a bid to create harmony and bring the community closer.

“This family oriented, community fun day is open to all people regardless of age, sex, religion, creed or race, and is designed to inspire and cultivate a harmonious Welsh identity based on peace, love and understanding,” the organizer of the Swansea `Eid in the Park, Riaz Hassan, told Wales Online on Wednesday, July 5.

“Last year was extremely successful, and we saw people from all sorts of backgrounds coming along.

“We also had about 50 young people helping in the smooth running of various activities on the day, and one of our objectives is to involve and engage more youths in charitable projects and up-skill them, and develop future role models.

“`Eid is a celebration commemorating the end of Ramadan, and the key highlight of the Islamic calendar.

“We invite everyone to take few minutes of their busy schedule and to join and celebrate with us together.”

The annual “`Eid in the Park” event takes place this Sunday, and will see a range of activities from magic shows to henna painting and a football tournament.

More than 2,000 people attended last year’s get-together, and organizers are hoping to see even more people this year.

The celebration marks the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, which ran from May 27 to June 24.

The 2017 `Eid in the Park takes place in the Abbey Meadow at Swansea University’s Singleton Campus.
