The Blackburn community has raised more than £10,400 in memory of Hasina Karolia, a cherished Tesco worker who passed away from cancer in November 2024 at the age of 52.
Hasina had dedicated over three decades to her role at the Tesco store on Hill Street, where she became a beloved figure among colleagues and customers alike.
Hasina began working at Tesco in 1993, serving on the checkout and shop floor. Her kindness, patience, and warmth left a lasting impression on everyone she met, Asian Image reported.

“Hasina was an extraordinary person,” said Nasreen Adam, a colleague who launched a fundraising campaign to honor her memory.
The funds, raised through a crowdfunding campaign, will be used to build a mosque in Indonesia through the charity Benefit Mankind. This act of ongoing charity, known as sadaqah jariyah in Islam, will serve as a testament to Hasina’s enduring legacy of compassion and care.
“Even during her brave battle with cancer, Hasina faced every moment with courage, grace, and unwavering faith,” Nasreen wrote on the fundraiser page.
“She touched so many lives with her strength and warmth. The warmth of her smile will forever remain in our hearts.”
Hasina’s family expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support from across the community.
“We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated towards the mosque being built in memory of our beloved mother,” the family said in a statement.
They added: “She was a beautiful soul who faced her battle with incredible bravery and formed lasting relationships with colleagues and customers who became like family to her. The mosque will serve as an ongoing charity in her memory, continuing her legacy of kindness and care.”
Donations poured in from people of all backgrounds, many leaving heartfelt messages that reflected the deep respect and admiration they had for Hasina.
Her family said they were “overwhelmed” by the generosity and support, noting that raising over £10,000 in just one month was a testament to her remarkable character and the positive impact she had on so many lives.
The mosque project, led by Benefit Mankind, will ensure that Hasina’s legacy continues to inspire and uplift others, just as she did during her lifetime.
