LONDON – The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, made an emotional return visit Wednesday to a community kitchen launched by Muslim women, which inspired her collaborative work on a Grenfell Tower charity cookbook.

“I’m so proud of you,” Markle told women at the Hubb Community Kitchen as she hugged the kitchen coordinator Zaheera Sufyaan, Daily Mail reported.

Entering the kitchen, Meghan soon put on an apron, rolled up her sleeves and got stuck into helping prepare food.

“It starts from one idea and from this one idea starts so much. I’m so proud of you,” she told women.

“It hasn’t been a year yet. From that standpoint, what you have achieved in that short space of time … it’s really exciting.”

The food prepared in the kitchen included Egyptian lamb fattah, Persian chicken and barberry rice.

These meals are sent to local groups, including elderly people’s homes, homeless shelters, and women’s refuges.

Before she left, the Duchess kissed and hugged all of the women.

“It was so nice. We are so happy. She has helped us a lot. She changed things in the kitchen and the community,” a woman identified as Ms Saied said.

“Not all of the community knew this center was here. Now they all do. The kitchen was open only two days a week, now it is seven days a week. She did lots to help us in a short amount of time.”

The book, titled Together: Our Community Cookbook, is the first solo charity project for the Duchess of Sussex.

Launched with Muslim women, it came out in support of families affected by the Grenfell Tower fire disaster in London.

The book took the number one spot on Amazon within hours of being unveiled two months ago and has since sold nearly 40,000 copies in the UK, raising £210,000.

It showcases more than 50 recipes from across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the eastern Mediterranean.

An enormous blaze engulfed Grenfell Tower on Latimer Road in North Kensington in the early hours of Wednesday, June 14.

It is believed that hundreds of people were inside the building, and at least 50 casualties have been taken to hospital following the fire.
