Al-Azhar, UK Mosques Pay Tribute to Queen Elizabeth II

The Grand Imam of Al Azhar, Dr. Ahmed Al Tayeb, mourned the death of Queen Elizabeth II, saying she dedicated her life to serving her nation.

“I offer my deepest condolences to His Majesty King Charles, the Royal family, and the British people on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II,” El-Tayyeb tweeted on Friday.

“Her Majesty was such a unique, committed and deeply respected head of state. She dedicated her life to serving her nation and people,” he added.

Queen Elizabeth II, the UK’s longest serving monarch passed away Thursday afternoon at the age of 96 at Scotland’s Balmoral Castle after reigning for 70 years.

In July 2018, El-Tayeb met Queen Elizabeth at Windsor Castle during his official visit to the United Kingdom.

Mosque Condolences

Muslims tributes also poured in for Queen Elizabeth with British mosques sending messages of condolences to the Royal Family.

One of the biggest mosques in the UK, The East London Mosque, sent its condolences to the Royal Family.

“The Queen spoke of the value of all faiths, and the healing power of faith to bring together and unite communities. She will be most remembered for her sense of duty and her devotion to a life of service,” it tweeted.

The Central Mosque of Cambridge also sent a message on Twitter.

“It is with sorrow that the mosque community learned of the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II, who has for so many year been an inspiration to so many at home and abroad,” it said.

“We pray for Heaven to guide and support her successor, King Charles III, recalling with gratitude his many interventions on behalf of an improved understanding and appreciation of Islam.”

Scotland’s Mosque of Glasgow has also sent a message of condolences on the passing of Queen Elizabeth.
