The Faith of the Companions

When the Prophet (saw) migrated his uncle Abbas (ra) came with him. Abbas was not a Muslim at that time. Abbas (ra) said to the Ansaar “This is Muhammad, he is my nephew, he is from our clan. We will look after him even though we don’t believe in his religion.”

They said “O Muhammad what do you expect from us?” He (saw) replied ” I expect you to defend me like you defend your own family, I expect you to spend on me as you spend on your own family, I expect you to stand for truth even if the world is against you”. The Ansaar said “If we fulfill all of this what will we get in return?”. The Prophet replied “You will attain jannah”.

These were the people who had very strong faith. There was a Companion who was from Rome who was brought to Makkah as a slave. He freed himself and became a great businessman. He migrated to Madinah.  The people of Makkah used to say “Look at this man he came with nothing and now he is leaving with all this wealth!”

They chased the companion up a mountain. At the bottom the mushrikeen stood and Shuayb told  them “if you come I can throw you off one by one or else I will tell you where all my wealth is and you can have it.” They took all his wealth. Then he entered the gathering in Madinah and the Prophet heard about what happened. The Prophet replied “Oh Shuayb what a bargain, this is investment for the akhirah”
