What were the non-Muslims reactions like after visiting this London Mosque a few weeks ago?
The London Muslim Center held this Open Mosque Day and Exhibition for non-Muslims to visit their mosque.
The coordinator of the Islam Awareness Project, Aslam Uddin, welcomes a group of non-Muslim visitors, and shows them around the different parts of the mosque.
The Center, built in 2004, is located near the East London mosque, which was built in 1986.
After taking off their shoes, Aslam guides the group into the main prayer area.
He shows them around the different sections, including the exhibition about Islam and Muslim beliefs.
The Exhibition is organized by the Islam Awareness Project, and is held at least three times a year.
“I came here today just because this is a building I pass every day.
“I was quite intrigued to take a look around, and see what happens inside.” That was the first reaction of Christina Bridge, one of the visitors interviewed.
“I’ve had a look around the exhibition today, and it’s very interesting to learn a little bit about Islam, and what so many people living around me believe,” she said.
“And also just to see, like there are many Qur’ans around on display, which are fascinating and beautiful,” Christina added.
“I think it’s really important, especially living in a multi-cultural city like London, to understand what people around you believe.”
“As a non-Muslim and a non-religious person, this has been a very positive experience for me just to understand a bit more,” Adam commented after his visit.
“I’m glad I came today as a non-Muslim just to understand a little bit more about the belief.
“Generally the negative perception of Islam in the West is to do with a misunderstanding,” was the comment Ben Robinson made.
“I’m glad I came today. I understand a lot more, and I see it much more as a peaceful religion and culture,” he added.
