Love of children, empathy, and compassion, are all normal feelings; they are natural to humans; therefore Islam encourages us to foster and develop them. An Arab nomad exclaimed to the Prophet (peace be upon him): “You kiss your children! We never do so!!” The Prophet (peace be upon him) told him: “How can I help you if Allah has taken away mercy from your hearts!”(Reported by Bukhari and others).

He also said, “Whoever shows no mercy to others cannot expect to receive the mercy of Allah.” (Reported by Bukhari and others).

I also feel you need to work on softening your spiritual heart. Establishing consistency in dhikr, seeking repentance, making istighfaar, reading the Qur’an and reflecting on its lessons, contemplation of death, visiting the graves, and also remembering the Prophetic traits of compassion and mercy are the ideal ways of achieving it.
