The word dayyan denotes a person with an overpowering authority to hold people accountable, such as a king. Al-Dayyan, with the article “Al-(the)”, is one of the Names of Allah Almighty and thus no one should be given this name. But dayyan, without the definitive article, could be used as a name; though it is more preferable to find a beautiful Islamic name for your child.
