We read in the Qur’an that humans have been created with the potential to choose for themselves. They can either elevate themselves spiritually or reduce themselves to the lowest of the low by their efforts.

 

Here are two references from the Qur’an to prove this point:

 

“And a soul and the Power who fashioned it by inspiring it with the thought of what is good for it and what is bad; successful indeed is the one who purifies it; and the wretched and lost is the one who debases it.” (Ash-Shams 91:7-10)

 

“And by the flight of time, verily humans are in a state of utter loss: save those who cherish faith and good deeds and exhort one another for truth and exhort one another for patience.” (Al-`Asr 103:1-3)

 

Therefore, it is wrong to say that the evil spirits or jinn can force humans against their will to alter their destiny. It is, however, true that Satan and other evil spirits will try their best to lead men and women astray by evil suggestions. And God will forsake those who surrender themselves to them.
