In the Name of Allah, the All-Merciful, the Mercy-Giving
All praise is due to Allah. Peace and blessings be upon his Messenger.
Being Muslim is a prerequisite for the acceptance of any good deed. Allah SWT says what means:
“And so, anyone [after this] who seeks a religion other than Islam [as revealed to all the prophets]- never shall it be accepted from him! Moreover, in the Hereafter, he shall be among the losers” (Aal `Imran 3:85)
Allah also says what means:
“Whoever belies faith, his [good] work shall assuredly be [rendered utterly] futile.“ (Al-Ma’ida 5:5)
So, even if a non-Muslim does a good deed, it will not be accepted but he/she will be given a worldly compensation in return.
Anas reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Allah does not wrong a believer a good deed as he is given blessings for it in this world and will be rewarded for it in the Hereafter. As for the disbeliever, he is given in this world the reward for good deeds he has performed for the sake of Allah and thus when he comes to the Hereafter, there is no good deed for which he can be rewarded.”
Allah Almighty knows best.
