On the use of term ‘forget’ for Allah in the Quran?

Wa alaykum assalam warahmatullah wabarakatuh

In the Name of Allah, the All-Merciful, the Mercy-Giving

All praise is due to Allah. Peace and blessings be upon His Messenger Muhammad.

Words often have different meanings and usages. As a general principle, the intended meaning of a word is determined by the context in which it is used, since the context provides essential modifications that more help us understand the intent of the speaker.

The Arabic word nisyan denotes forgetting, overlooking and negligence; and it is the context that determines the intended one. Nisyan in the sense of losing remembrance can never be attributed to Allah. It is even an excuse in the Shari`ah laws. On the other hand, neglecting and overlooking Allah and His commands deserve divine punishment and in recompense deserve negligence and disregard.

Almighty Allah knows best.
